Family car trips. So wonderful in hindsight. At the time - well - we might need some help. Fortunately, the folks at Family on Board (www.familyonboard.com) is a click away with everything you need for your next road trip, airplane trip or any other journey with forced inactivity.
First things first. How to keep the boredom from driving you all crazy? Family on Board organizes | its travel games by age. There is something for everyone from infants to adults. Being a little subversive, we like the Roadkill Bingo. There are lots of other choices. A side note from your Girlfriends. Don't forget the (free) books on CD or tape available at your local library. We can renew online now, so we can keep the audio books for our whole vacations. Except for Alex. She goes away for a loooong time. Family on Board has a great idea for keeping interest up - on a long trip, keep a stash of new games and activities stashed away. Reward good (or at least acceptable) behavior with a new game or activity at predetermined times or milestones.

The next tough thing about long trips is organization. Family on Board offers a wide variety of in-car organizers. They also have a selection of rooftop carriers and tie-downs. Although in our (bitter) experience the car is still going to get trashed, without some sort of system we'd never find anything and lose our minds.

 | has - honestly - two 12 volt refrigerators for her car, and loves them both. Family on Board carries these and other gadgets. Make coffee, heat soup, inflate your spare tire or plug a 12 volt extension cord into the power point.
