you can find (almost) anything online

You know that we love the Internet. The scope and depth of information available seems to be infinite. Today, we would like to point out a few of our favorite resources.

We're sure you are familiar with eBay ( www.ebay.com).  What you may not know is how many brand-new products you can buy. Alex is building a house, and her friend clued her into the opportunities. So far, Alex has gotten top name-brand light switches and electrical outlets, down comforters
and pillows, lighting, makeup mirrors, Oriental rugs and Sunbrella outdoor fabric by the yard on eBay, all for much less money than she would have paid at retail. She has also sold some unwanted items for far more money than they would have pulled in at a garage sale. Think unneeded computer peripherals and "collectibles" that she doesn't want to collect. One of Alex's friends buys designer clothing, jeans and shoes on eBay. You will also f! ind top makeup lines and skin care products. eBay has gotten more user friendly over the years, also. Here's one cautionary note. Be sure you know what prices the items command in the regular retail universe. It's also a good idea to check "completed items" to see what comparable merchandise has sold for on eBay.

Craigslist (www.craigslist.org) focuses more on individuals selling or exchanging things.  And we mean just about ANYTHING!  This no-
nonsense site is similar to eBay in that it allows you to search for things you want and allows you to post things you want others to know about. In contrast to eBay, Craigslist is more job and service oriented, is not as slick and it has a more local focus. We love that Craigslist is not only state specific but city specific as well.  This way you can decide how far you want to drive to get that piano. You can find everything from furniture, to fill dirt.  Suzanne and Terri have even found super wonderful nannys/babysitters. Craigslist categories include services, resumes and jobs, housing, community, for sale! or barter and even a discussion forum.  While we can't guarantee your experiences will be fantastic, ours have been great.  Obviously, you need to proceed with caution. We love the self-policing practice, which seems to work.  If you want to sell concert tickets, go ahead but only charge face value or you will be flamed and flagged and asked not to post. However, self-policing means no moderator.  Since there are so many categories we have found that sometimes you need to look in more than one place to find what you are looking for.  Likewise, it may behoove you to post in more than one area as well.  However, only post where it makes sense, you can also get flagged for errant postings. Did we mention, it's free to search? In most cities, it is also free to post. You'll begin in the San Francisco area, but you can easily choose your state, city or country on the right side of the page. Happy hunting on www.craigslist.org.

Scholarship! Get your scholarships here!  Fastweb (Financial Aid Search Through the Web - www.fastweb.com) is a site with which every college-bound student, current college student and parent needs to become very familiar. This site

does all the research for you to find scholarships (and, yes, we mean more than one) for which your student qualifies. Simply fill out the form (it is pretty detailed but well worth it) and submit.  Voila!  In a matter seconds Fastweb gives you a list of all eligible scholarships, many of which you can apply for online. Fastweb adds scholarships daily and will email you the newest ones your student qualifies for. Most scholarships are not need-based but rather interest-b! ased. Because of this, fill out the profile as accurately as possible so every scholarship your student qualifies for comes up.  Scholarships range from $500 to the fabled full ride. Never fear - if you or your child qualifies and receives one scholarship there may still be others available. In fact, he or she can apply for (and hopefully receive) as many scholarships as the braniac qualifies for.  Fastweb is the most complete source of local, national and college-specific scholarships, boastings 1.3 million scholarships worth over $3 billion dollars. In addition to the scholarship search, Fastweb has a section on college tools, jobs and internships. The section on colleges is also a place you'll want to check out. Here you can search and compare detailed college profiles. With college tuition where it is today, we can't quite say paying for it will ever be easy, but Fastweb can make it easier.

We'll write periodic Show and Tell Me newsletters focusing on the great resources available on the Internet, but for now,

Your Internet-addicted Girlfriends - but hey, we pass on what we know,

Terri, Suzanne and Alex
