Rare Device takes its name from the poem "Kubla Khan" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Borrowing the spirit of Coleridge's "miracle of rare device, a sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice," Rare Device has, simply, good stuff for you and your home. Rena Tom, artist and proprietress, decided to open Rare Device so she could showcase her own creations as well as those | from other artists. Every object in the store has its own story, and has been chosen because it is handmade, well-designed, useful, beautiful or all of the above.
For example, if you want to brighten up a room (and aren't afraid of a little color) look at the wallpaper-posters. Each poster is only $18 and you can simply hang one for a splash of color or you can apply wallpaper glue and cover your wall. The images tile for a seamless fit.
| Do you love fresh iced tea but the hassle of brewing, steeping and cooling just seems like too much trouble? Rare Device offers this fabulous iced tea teapot that comes with a stainless steel lid and diffuser but is shaped to sit in your refrigerator. This little baby lets you brew your tea hot, remove the diffuser and refrigerate - that's it!
